Tomas Sulvaran: Living in the Moment
By Matt Solis, Editor
Tomas Sulvaran began his ascent to drywall mastery back in 2006, but as he recounts, his path to success wasn’t clearly defined until he was already miles down the road. “When I started working in the construction industry, I didn’t know that drywall was going to be part of my life because I was doing all kinds of things for the company, like cleaning jobsites and bringing tools to the workers,” he explains. “Eventually, I started helping the guys who did the drywall, and I kept doing that for a few more years. After that, I went to work for another general contractor, and I knew enough about installing and finishing drywall that they put me in charge of that part of the company.”
After honing his craft for another decade, Tomas struck out on his own and established Sulvaran Drywall in 2022. Today, he says his favorite parts of his job are connecting with his clients and continually learning from their interactions. “I really like having conversations with my customers because it helps me improve my service skills and practice speaking English at the same time. I’ve been able to learn a lot from them.”
Tomas moved to the Bay Area in 2007 and currently resides in Antioch with his wife, Juana, where they enjoy the abundance of year-round activities that are readily available throughout Northern California. “I like it here because there’s a lot of drywall work and I can go anywhere regardless of the season,” he affirms. “It’s just a great place to live.”
Outside of work, Tomas enjoys spending time with his extended family and visiting treasured locales like Mount Lassen and Shasta Lake. “My family has been hugely supportive of me over the years, so I love being with them,” he says. “Whether we’re having fun at the beach, camping or just sitting around during the holidays, it’s always a good time.”
When it comes to a personal or professional philosophy, Tomas emphasizes the importance of living in the moment. “I take each day as it comes, which means I don’t stress about what tomorrow might bring or whether I’ll land a major job,” he offers. “Instead of letting finances consume me, I stay focused on the day-to-day aspects of my work. That helps me stay grounded and motivated because I know success will come from consistently putting in the effort.”
