Esaul Esquivel: Concrete Ambition
By Matt Solis, Editor
From the moment Esaul Esquivel entered the concrete industry in 2005, he knew he had found his professional calling. “I started working for a decorative concrete company and immediately fell in love with the process because it gave me the opportunity to bring my ideas to life,” he reflects. “Eventually, I decided to open my own business because I wanted to do more of my own creations and offer clients a better approach to concrete.”
Today, as owner of California Concrete Overlay Inc., Esaul says his passion for innovation remains the cornerstone of his work. “I love developing new trends, designs and colors for my clients. For me, it’s all about bringing fresh ideas and technologies to the concrete industry.”
Esaul has called the Bay Area home for more than two decades—he relocated from Los Angeles in 2003 and landed in Martinez, where he appreciates the tranquility of life in the East Bay. “Martinez is a nice, quiet city with a great community,” he affirms. “Everybody gets involved with local businesses and supports each other, so it’s a wonderful place to live.”
Outside of work, Esaul spends the bulk of his free time with his wife and their two young children. “We’re a really outgoing family—both of our kids are in elementary school, so we like taking them to parks and doing outdoor activities,” he details. “When I get home at the end of the workday, I just like spending time with them. We’ll have a nice dinner, talk about how they’re doing in school, and catch up on homework or read a book together.”
Esaul may be a devoted family man, but he also makes time for a variety of personal hobbies. “I used to study music before I got into the concrete business, so I still like creating music in my free time,” he explains. “I also like riding motorcycles and playing basketball, but one of my favorite things to do is just sit in my office and think about new products or designs for my company.”
When it comes to a personal or professional philosophy, Esaul emphasizes the importance of helping others. “I believe my purpose in life is to help people move from one place to another,” he says. “I’m not a psychologist, but I enjoy helping my friends and family resolve their problems and move forward.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Esaul says he has no desire to slow down. “I’m not considering retiring, even if it was tomorrow. I have so many ideas and businesses that I want to create, so if I retired, it would just be another day of bringing new ideas to life.”
