Alex Hamilton: A Sense of Community
By Matt Solis, Editor
Alex Hamilton’s path to the plumbing/HVAC industry was a natural progression from his early start in construction. After getting involved as a teenager, he went to trade school and spent many years working on large projects across the United States, but eventually, he knew he was ready for a change. “A few years ago, I realized I was tired of traveling and wanted to settle down with a smaller company,” he remember. “That’s when I found CPI Service, which Craig McKenna founded in 1987 and ran until his passing. I reached out to his wife and was able to take over ownership of the business in 2023.”
Today, Alex thrives on the challenges and rewards that come with running his own company. “I’m energized by delivering great projects to our customers,” he says. “There are ups and downs in the day-to-day operations, but when my team figures out a tough problem and comes out on top, it’s very rewarding.”
Since moving to Berkeley in 2020, Alex has embraced the Bay Area lifestyle. “I love that I can walk to places like Acme Bread Company just a block away and support small businesses,” he shares. “I used to travel all the time for work, so I like having a sense of community here.”
Outside of work, Alex spends most of his free time hiking, playing soccer, scuba diving, playing the piano and spending quality time with his fiancée. “We love doing things together, whether it’s going bachata dancing or staying in to watch our favorite TV shows,” he details.
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Alex says he wouldn’t stray far from his current passions. “I would continue working in construction, but I’d volunteer. California has a lot of housing issues and I would love to help with those. I’d also make time to do more hiking, scuba diving and international traveling.”
