Union City FAQs
Q: How did Union City get its name?
A: Union City got its name from the merging of two small communities in the mid-19th century. In 1850, brothers John and William Horner established the town of Union City, inspired by their original home in Union City, New Jersey. Around the same time, another nearby town called New Haven was founded. As the two communities grew, they eventually united under the name "Union City" in 1959.
Q: When is the farmers' market?
A: The Union City Farmers' Market is held every Saturday year-round from 9am to 1pm at Old Alvarado Park on Smith Street.
Q: When is the best time for my out-of-town relatives to visit?
A: The best time to visit Union City is during the spring and fall months when the weather is pleasant and ideal for outdoor activities.
Q: Why are there so many old railroads in town?
A: Union City has a rich history with railroads due to its strategic location as a transportation hub in the Bay Area. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, railroads were crucial for moving agricultural products, including sugar beets. Union City was part of key rail lines connecting the region to other parts of California.
Q: What are the best areas to explore on a date?
A: The Union Landing Shopping Center is a good spot for dining and entertainment, but you could also try local parks like Dry Creek Pioneer Regional Park.

Assessing Your Home’s Foundation

Over time, foundations that weren’t correctly mixed or installed can deteriorate, which compromises the home’s stability. If you’ve never had your foundation looked at, hire an engineer to perform an assessment.

Choosing an Auto Repair Shop
When choosing an auto repair shop, don’t base your choice solely on the labor rate. This has little to do with the actual cost of the job and even less to do with the quality of the work. A more important factor to consider is the shop’s ability to provide an accurate diagnosis and a successful repair.
